Crimes Nearby: Man Robs Chase Bank

Setauket

According to police, a white man described as 5-feet 9-inches tall and between 20 and 30 years old, entered the branch located at 1395 Route 25A at 11:10 a.m. and showed a teller a note demanding cash, also stating he was armed with a weapon. Police said the teller gave the man cash, then the man left the bank on foot south through the parking lot behind the bank. Anisa Escobar, 41, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested in Smithtown Feb. 6 and charged with petty larceny. Escobar allegedly stole a television from BJs Wholesale Club in Setauket, brought the empty box to the BJs in Islandia, switched it on the shelf for a new television and returned it for a full refund.

Rocky Point

Justin Baumgartner, 22, of Rocky Point, was arrested Feb. 4 and charged with criminal mischief – intent to damage property. Baumgartner allegedly punched and shattered the rearview mirror of a 1999 Chrysler Sebring on Route 25 in Coram.

Smithtown

Thomas Dowd, 20, of Holtsville, Shawn Omack, 20, of Ronkonkoma, and Anthony Distasi, 21, of Holbrook, were arrested in Smithtown on charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree physical injury/displaying a firearm and third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury on Feb. 5. Police said the three allegedly chased a man, threw him to the ground, stole his backpack and kicked and punched him numerous times causing a laceration to the head that required stitches at Stony Brook University Medical Center at 2:05 a.m.

Christopher Papile, of Miller Place, was arrested in Nissequogue on Feb. 6 on charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon/firearm and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Papile allegedly possessed a knife and marijuana in a backpack in a 2002 Ford at River Road and Parsins Lane at 1:14 p.m.

Riverhead

Luz Gutierrez, 32, of Riverhead, was arrested on petit larceny charges on Jan. 11. Police reports state that Gutierrez removed children's toys, food, beverages, kitchen ware, and clothes from K-Mart without paying for them. He was transported to police headquarters, processed, released on $200 bail and given a desk appearance ticket.

Benjamin Gilliam, 50, of Riverhead, was arrested on Feb. 8 on petit larceny charges. Accoring to police reports, Gilliam stole $298 in groceries from Stop and Shop on Route 58. Reports state that Gilliam was caught by store security cameras concealing merchandise. He was placed under arrest on a civilian complaint, transported to police headquarters, processed, and held for arraignment.

Police charged Jeremy Rosendahl, 32, of East Quogue, with criminal drug possession in the seventh degree on Feb. 8 after pulling him over in Riverside. Police say Rosendahl had a needle in plain view and admitted to having heroin hidden in his shoe. Police also charged Rosendahl with having a suspended registration and for having an uninsured car.
