Port Jefferson Artist Reveals Extensive Collection

Francis Campani exhibits life long collection of work at the Port Jefferson Village Center all month.

For the month of April, over 85 original works by , will be on display on the second floor of the .

Campani, an accomplished painter and architect, had the great opportunity of studying at The Art Student’s League in New York City and the Scuola Statale d’Arte in Siena, Italy. From there, she went on to apprentice under Northport’s own successful artist Mary Rose Palau.

Since finishing her education at both SUNY Stony Brook and Columbia University, Francis has displayed her art at numerous exhibitions and galleries both at home and abroad. Campani is currently an associate professor of architecture at the New York Institute of Technology and a partner at Campani and Schwarting Architects in Port Jefferson.

This past September, she was a recipient of the “Art du Pastel en France" awarded at the annual juried exhibition of the Pastel Society of America.

Her work, mostly made of pastels, oils and drawings, continues to show her focused interest on still life and the human form. A majority of her oil paintings show the simplistic, but universal beauty of people enjoying seemingly ordinary tasks. She explores private moments such as washing one’s hair, reading a book and a mother holding her child to couples sharing affectionate, spontaneous moments together.

The thick, structured “block type” brush strokes of solid color are methodically placed on the canvas, creating images that are minimalistic in style. This technique, combined with thought provoking, relatable subject matter also evokes great conversation amongst its viewers. In other words–there is something for everyone to enjoy.
