Legislator Hahn and Baxter's Pet Pantry Not Playing Dead When it Comes to Fighting Pet Hunger on Long Island

Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn today announced that she is hosting a pet food drive that will run through March 31, 2014 in her Port Jefferson office.  Donated items are being collected for “Baxter's Pet Pantry” that was established by Long Island Cares, Inc. in 2009.

“When circumstances prevent a home’s basic needs from being met it affects both the two and four legged members of that family,” said Legislator Hahn.  “No family should have to pick and choose which lives within the household should be sustained.  Because of the efforts of Baxter’s Pet Pantry, families do not have to sacrifice their beloved animals in order to survive.”

According to Elana Sissons, Food Drive Coordinator for Baxter’s Pet Pantry, "The purpose of distributing pet food to families in need is to avoid having pets placed in shelters or abandoned because families might be having difficulty in securing pet food."
