Advisory Against Bathing at Local Beaches

With heavy rains from Hurricane Irene, local beaches may be affected by storm water runoff, increasing bacterial levels.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services issued an advisory against bathing in over 100 beaches on Friday due to the heavy rainfall that is forecasted from Hurricane Irene causing bacterial numbers to exceed excess of New York State standards.

“The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff,” read the statement. “Beaches not directly influenced by stormwater runoff, those located on the Atlantic Ocean, are not affected by this advisory.”

Below we have listed some of the local beaches are covered in the advisory.
