Boating Exhibit Docks At Port Jefferson Village Center

Summer exhibit pays tribute to Port Jefferson's historic past in boat building and as a boatyard.

Several boats will be docked along East Broadway in Port Jefferson this summer, paying homage to the town's past. 

The "From Shore to Shore: Boat Builders and Boatyards of Westchester and Long Island" exhibit opened at the Port Jefferson Village Center on July 1, The Port Record Times reports. The exhibit, running through Sept. 2, is offered by  Long Island Traditions and ArtsWestchester.

The exhibit focuses on 20 boat builder and 10 historic boatyard. It consists of 35 display panels, each made up of five photos, with interpretive material from people interviewed on the tradition of boat building. There is also a multimedia presentation of 20 three-to-five minute interviews with about traditional boat building. 

An opening reception is scheduled for July 11, from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend and should RSVP by calling 516-767-8803. 

Other activities are scheduled to take place at the exhibit throughout the summer including a boat display on Aug. 3 and 4.
