Cedar Beach Polar Plunge Raises $137,000 to Benefit Special Olympics

More than 800 residents jumped into Cedar Beach to raise money for the Special Olympics.

The Town of Brookhaven and the Special Olympics of New York hosted the fourth annual “Polar Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason” at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Nov. 23.

According to a statement, this year's event was record breaking with over 800 plungers including Town of Brookhaven officials and employees.

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “It was great to see such a large turnout at this year’s event. Thanks to the volunteers, plungers, Town employees, fire and ambulance staff who worked so hard, this was the most successful Brookhaven plunge ever," said Romaine in a statement.
