Civic Association Wants to Make Music

The Port Jefferson Station-Terryville Civic Association is attempting to put together a community orchestra.

The Port Jefferson Station-Terryville Civic Association has long been making progress on various community issues. Now, that organization wants to make music, too.

Lou Antoniello, who serves as the organization's treasurer and chair of the open space/zoning committee, is helping the Civic Association put together a community orchestra. He is calling for adults with any level of experience playing any instrument to come together for the purpose of playing concerts.

"The formation of the Station Pops Orchestra is a way to bring culture to our hamlets using local talent," he said. "Such orchestras have been formed in many other communities to our east and west and all are very successful."

The Shoreham-Wading River Community Band, for instance, was formed in 1983 and is still going strong, with performances at the local high school, at nursing homes and veterans' organizations, and more.

Rehearsals for the Station Pops Orchestra would take place a few times a month at Comsewogue High School, with performances twice a year – possibly over the summer and around the winter holidays. Sheet music and direction will be provided by Comsewogue superintendent Joe Rella.

Anyone interested in joining the Station Pops Orchestra can contact Antoniello at meyepassion659@optonline.net.
