Congregational Church in Mt. Sinai Built in 1807

We asked you to guess where this historical photo was taken. Did you get it right?

On Sunday we asked you to guess where this photo was taken in Mt. Sinai.

According to the Mt. Sinai-Miller Place Historical Society website this is the Congregational Church still there today at 233 North Country Road.

It was established as a parish of Old Mans in 1789 "by six men and three women (the same year George Washington was inaugurated as President)."

From the website:

"On April 6, 1807 under the leadership of Rev. Noah Hallock, the members met and voted to build a new meeting house because the old one (west of the current building) was in a state of disrepair," the site explains.

After securing the needed funds construction began in April and the first service was held in December of 1807.

Interestingly, the steeple, narthex, and front porch were not added until 1851, according to the Historical Society.

For more information about the church head over to the Historical Society's website.
