Did You See The Fireworks in Port Jefferson?

Tell us what you thought of the pre-Fourth of July show.

The village of Port Jefferson decided to hold its annual fireworks show one day earlier this year on July 3. The display went off between and and was supposed to be visible from both and from the Long Island Sound.

According to reader reports, hundreds of boats filled the water to watch the show. People also took to social media to tweet out that they were going to the beach to see the fireworks. We even received the picture above from a reader on our Facebook page.

Patch wants to know if you went to see the show. If so, tell us how it was in the comments below. If you have photos, upload them to our gallery here.

Given the inaccessibility of the site, Fairway was basically unpassable by 8:30, and there's no parking on the streets of No Terre, did anyone see them? Lots of folks in the harbor front park, looking at the fireworks in Bridgeport (hey, Mommy, there are the Port Jeff fireworks!). I'm thinking the better site would be Slatterly Landing - there might be even less parking there, or, go for the gold and make the viewing site McAllister Park. No Terre code would make a bundle of dough ticketing and towing on Anchorage Road! Seriously, Village Hall really should consider either getting rid of the annual fireworks display given the obviously unsolvable problem of getting so many personal vehicles to the beaches. After all, some bright bulb might be inclined to bus residents into East/West beach, which might require running buses through the Village of No Terre. Perish the thought!

What is the use of celebrating July 4th on July 3rd? I know it was to keep non-residents out but seriously? All the same problems existed it was just a day early

Drove to East Beach around 8:40 and parked in the East Beach parking lot. Police were checking for village stickers. It was a beautiful evening and the fireworks were great. I remember a few years back they were held at the PJ Harbor. They were the best and everyone was able to enjoy them. Would love to see them return to the PJ Harbor.

I think it was a good idea to have them on the 3rd, as many of us of plans for today. We went to Cedar Beach and had a great view ! Enjoyed it very much, thanks for a nice evening !!

Crazy to hold the fireworks on the 3rd especially since the cost was the same for the 3rd or the 4th. There was a lot of time between the fireworks. The finale was very good but not so good up to that point. The location was the worst it could have been. But It was great from the country club. Diamond

Great idea to have the fireworks display on July 3rd at east beach. Im sure the village restaurants & merchants where happy to have crowds of people drawn away from the village so they would'nt have a busy night during the week.Maybe the summer concerts & movies should be moved to the beach too. That will help ease the parking and traffic problems. If the Mayor and the Board of trustees want to keep such events just for villagers they should build a wall at around the town and make it a true land of OZ
