Event Spotlight: Village Picnic Set for Saturday at Harborfront Park

Picnic will celebrate village's 50th anniversary.

As part of its ongoing celebration of its 50th anniversary of incorporation, the Village of Port Jefferson is throwing a big picnic party at Harborfront Park on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

The event will feature a production by Theater Three at 1:30 p.m. and a band playing 60s music at 3:30 p.m. There will be 1960s cars on display and at dusk, the movie Mary Poppins will be shown on a big screen at the park.

The picnic will also feature all the fun associated with a summery festival, such as children's games, races, kites, face painting, cotton candy and more. Its rain date is June 9.

During the picnic, the park will be rededicated as the Mayor Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park in honor of her many years of service to the village.

"It’s basically a day for you to pack your lunch, come on down, spend the day with us on the village green," Mayor Margot Garant said in her weekly video report. "... It really doesn’t get better than that, folks. Come celebrate with us."
