Fireball Seen Over Northeast, Including Long Island
Flash seen from Vermont to South Carolina likely caused by meteor. Did you see it?
Hundreds of people across the Northeast, including many on Long Island, reported seeing a streaking fireball in the sky Sunday night at 5:20 p.m., according to the the American Meteor Society.
Mike Hankey of the American Meteorological Society told the Cape Cod Times that the phenomenon was caused by a meteor than entered the atmosphere over southwest Vermont, heading north.
Viewers report the flash was brighter than a full moon.
I personally saw the fireball in St. James, and it looked like a bright blue streak that flashed brightly, twice before vanishing.
