Why Go: West Meadow Beach is home to many species of migratory birds. Head down to the beach to learn about the journeys that resident birds make. This years' theme is Go Wild, Go Birding. For more information call Eileen at 631 751-7863 or email: egerle@brookhaven.org.

Why Go: It's the first weekend of the second year for Port Jefferson village's farmers market brought to you by the Economic Development Council. The market features vendors from across Long Island providing fresh produce, plants, and artisanal foods and wines along with live music. 

Also: The Port Jefferson teen band, Kanenas, a jazz, blues, reggae, rock and alternative music group will be there to entertain shoppers on opening day. The band will jam to support the on-going Red Cross relief efforts to help victims cope with the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that struck northern Japan.

Why Go: The musical comedy is about a diehard musical theatre fan who plays his favorite cast album when the madcap musical bursts to life in his living room. It tells the story of a pampered Broadway starlet, comic gangsters, zany flappers, and a celebrity wedding. It's a show filled with music, dance and comedy. Why Go: Prepared by the Rhodes Committee, Stony Brook: A Village Lost to Time explores Stony Brook Village pre-1940 as depicted through photographs.  Original photographs from the collections of the Three Village Historical Society and individual collectors have be enlarged offering captivating, detailed images of the individuals, architecture, and landscape of Stony Brook.

Where/When: , Saturday, May 14 from 8 - 10 p.m.

Why Go: Homegrown Music Café is a monthly concert series featuring Long Island and Regional singer songwriters and bands. It is considered one of the finest, intimate venues in Suffolk County. Performers include 42nd and Nelson, John Taylor and Gabe D'Antoni.

Where/When: Chandlery Building, 101 East Broadway, Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Children's Maritime Museum at Port Jefferson (CMM) has moved into its new home in the Chandlery Building and is reopening as theMaritime Explorium. At noon on Saturday there will be a Grand Opening Celebration and 2011 Summer Program Open House. Explore Nanotechnology and find out how Nano fibers can help the ocean. Examine Horseshoe Crabs and learn if they are really a crab or a spider. Build a windsock and try it out. Free admission all day.
