Great Escape: Kick Some Butt

Each week, we tell you about a great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Ever have one of those weeks? We all do. When you have to de-stress you can go do some or . But sometimes you want to take your troubles and smash them right in the face.

That's why this week's Great Escape will help you release that built up tension with kicking, punching, and boxing. Nothing's better to help you relax than tiring yourself out with a good old fashioned butt kicking.

At Journey Fitness they combine Ultimate Bodyshaping and kickboxing with resistance training, boot camp, suspension training, power Tai Chi and core classes. They also offer group personal training in a private setting.

Hours: Monday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., 6:15 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 6:15 p.m.; Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Fusion Fitness offers a variety of fitness training classes from Cardio Salsa to Hot Yoga. The club specializes in cross training, which combines mixed martial arts and cardio with strength-enhancing workouts. They say that this method gives your body  a healthy "shock" to produce the desired fitness results.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for morning sessions and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. for afternoon sessions. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed Sunday.

This gym touts its unique system of integrated martial arts (Nagare-Do Sogo Ryu) that brings together many concepts of both combat and sport-related martial arts while developing the mind and the body. Certified instructors provide group and individual help in a state of the art facility just off of Route 112.

Hours: Monday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, 4:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Thursday, 4:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This club offers 45-minute classes in everything from cardio training to Pilates and boxing. You can even discover what the many health benefits are of participating in Zumba, an intense dance-aerobics workout played to pulsating Latin music.

Hours: Monday through Sunday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Shake what your mama gave ya with Zumba Gold at the Port Jefferson Village Center on and . Combining merengue, salsa, cumbia, cha cha and belly dancing with strength training, Zumba will help improve your balance, flexibility and cardiovascular health.

Hours: Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (Registration is required.)
