HELP: Local Benefits For Superstorm Sandy Victims

Where you can go to donate needed items for victims of the storm.

The outpouring of support for victims of Superstorm Sandy has been tremendous. Patch has been getting calls and emails asking how people can help and notifying us about local donation points where people can drop off much-needed items. We've compiled a list of places you can go to help.

Collecting Items For Those Affected by Sandy

Where: Nails for You and Smarty Pantz Preschool

When: Ongoing during store hours until Thanksgiving

Collecting non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, disposable diapers, wipes, baby bottles and baby food for LI Cares to distribute to neighbors affected by Hurrican Sandy. If you can help, please drop your donations at Nails For You in the Port Jeff Station Post Office Shopping Center (located between AT&T and Bravo Supermarket). A second drop-off site is the Smarty Pantz Preschool at 10 Oakland Ave- behind Chase Bank.

Hurricane Sandy Drive at Boardwalk Games

Where: Boardwalk Games, Port Jefferson

When: Ongoing

Boardalk Games is working with Leslie Sells Long Island to collect items for Long Island Cares. Things needed most: Blankets, sweaters, baby/kids clothes and necessities (diapers & formula), wet wipes, toiletries, non perishable food, anything else you would like to donate. If you are not local, or cannot make it to Port Jefferson and would still like to help message them on Facebook.

Infant Jesus Storm Relief Drive

Where: Infant Jesus Church, Port Jefferson

When: Nov. 13 - 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parish Social Ministry will be collecting these Storm Relief items. They will not accept clothing except warm coats, gloves, hats at this time. Soap, Bleach, Towels, Bedding, Toiletries, Detergent, Deodorant, Conditioner, Toothpaste, Flash lights, Toilet Paper, Tooth Brushes, Garbage Bags, Batteries D & AA, Cleaning Supplies, Gloves (heavy duty) and Water (any size.) For more information please call (631) 331-6145. They also need volunteers on those days to sort and pack for delivery on Friday.

Food Drive at Legis. Sarah Anker's Office

Where: Legislator Sarah Anker' Office, 620 Rt. 25A, Suite B, Mount Sinai

When: Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

To aid residents needing food and warmth as a result of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation, Legislator Sarah Anker will be accepting non-perishable food items, water, bottled drinks, personal care items, pet food, household cleaning supplies, new blankets, hats, gloves scarves and socks beginning Nov. 13. No glass containers or perishable foods will be accepted. Collected items will be distributed by Long Island Cares to local food pantries and community service organizations in need. Donate Items at Backstage Studio of Dance

Where: Backstage Studio of Dance

When: During studio hours until December

Island Harvest is setting up a donations box at Backstage Studio of Dance (located in the same shopping center as Port Jefferson DMV.) The drive will start on Monday and continue until December. They will be collecting non-perishable donations food, diapers, soap, toothpaste, etc.
