JVC Broadcasting To Host 'Stuff-A-Truck' Food Drive

Local radio station parent company hoping to stock Long Island Cares, Brookhaven Interface with special all-day event.

JVC Broadcasting, the parent company of local radio stations such as Party 105 and WRCN, has announced its plans to host a massive food drive to benefit outreach centers and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

According to a recent release, the broadcast company is holding a two-day "Stuff-A-Truck" food drive on November 17 and 18 at Cafe Figaro's parking lot in the Wal-Mart shopping center in Centereach. All four radio stations owned by JVC, Party 105, My Country 96.1, La Fiesta and WRCN will be on hand in the parking lot, competing against one another for who can raise the most amount of donated food. On both days, the drive will last from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the food collected will be donated to Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Food Bank and Brookhaven Interface.

According to the release, JVC is hoping to break last year's total collection of 26,000 pounds of food stuffed in the trucks. In a statement from Elana Sissons, the food drive coordinator for Long Island Cares, the event will take place just in time for a merry holiday season.

"The Thanksgiving holiday always brings a heightened concern for those who are hungry and food insecure," stated Sissons. Paule Pachter, executive director of the organization added that this year, with rising unemployment, disabled veterans returning home and neighbors now in need of assistance, the event will give a much-needed boost to the area.
