The Long Island Rail Road announced that service between Port Jefferson and Smithtown will be suspended during the Tuesday afternoon rush hour because of lingering effects from Hurricane Irene.
Eastbound service from Huntington to Smithtown on the Port Jefferson line has been restored and will be available for Tuesday afternoon.
"There is still significant damage to many portions of the LIRR system due to Hurricane Irene, including flooding, numerous fallen trees and power outages," the LIRR announced on its website.
Patch will update the status of the Port Jefferson line on the LIRR as more information becomes available.
