Lost Dog Adopted at Port Jeff Event Spotted

Dog lost after being adopted at weekend event in Port Jefferson was spotted on Thursday.

A Port Jefferson family whose dog last weekend at the Port Jefferson event put out a call to help, enlisting people via Facebook and Twitter among other online methods like pets911. Since then the dog named Perrin has been spotted by the family in their yard briefly on Thursday before she escaped again.

"Good news. Perrin made a visit to her new home today," said Meredith Festa, one of the organizers of the who has been actively involved in finding Perrin along with others. "She came into the yard and went under the part of the fence where she originally got out."

Perrin was spotted on the family's deck but by the time the family noticed her and one of them tried to go out to grab her she took off again.

"So we know she is not injured," Festa said. "She is safe and she knows where home is."

The family is looking for a dog-size heart trap to humanely trap Perrin and is putting out the call to borrow it if anyone has one.

Perrin was featured by Last Chance Animal Rescue during last weekend's pet adoption event and taken home by the family on Saturday, according to Festa.

Perrin is described as a female, tricolored hound with tan, brown, black and white fur. She weighs about 35 pounds and is estimated to be one year old. A page with a full description of Perrin before she was adopted can be found on Last Chance Animal Rescue's website here.

Perrin was lost at Old Post Rd and Jefferson Landing in Port Jefferson when she headed into the woods near there. She's new to the area and very timid, according to a flyer posted on various Facebook pages.
