Update: Perrin, Lost Port Jeff Dog is Found

Many relieved after a dog who was lost after being adopted at weekend event in Port Jefferson has been found.

A Port Jefferson family whose dog was lost last weekend at the Port Jefferson event has been found.

For a little under a week, animal lovers in Port Jefferson and animal rescue groups have been working together to spread the word online and go out to look for the hound named Perrin. by the family in their yard but she escaped again.

Many people rallied to help find Perrin after she Many individuals and groups put out a call to help, enlisting people via Facebook and Twitter among other online methods like pets911.

A group called the Guardians of Rescue offered to help the family find Perrin. They suggested that the family leave out cat food to lure the dog into the yard and then use a string tied to a board to cover up the hole she'd been using to access the property.

"She's been found," announced Meredith Festa on Facebook in Saturday. Festa is one of the organizers of the and had been actively involved in finding Perrin along with others.

"The Guardians of Rescue went over there yesterday and helped her," she said. "They told her to put out canned cat food. She showed up at 12:30 a.m."

Volunteers from Guardians of Rescue "walked the woods and streets for hours and tracked the dog," said Festa.

They told the family that Perrin was circling the yard and said that she would come back for the cat food.

"They were right," Festa said.

A flyer posted by Last Chance Animal Rescue on Facebook also announced the good news.

"Perrin is home," they wrote. "Huge thanks to Guardians of Rescue, Meredith Festa, Port Jefferson Patch and all of our supporters who helped to get this sweet girl home safely."

The group reported that Perrin was hungry and "just wants to play, her family is thinking of finding a playgroup."

"Perrin will be visiting Adoption Day at Petco Lake Grove tomorrow to get some toys and well deserved treats," they wrote.

Perrin was featured by Last Chance Animal Rescue during last weekend's pet adoption event and taken home by the family on Saturday, according to Festa.
