Photo of the Day: Broken Bus Delays Train

A bus caused a bit of a delay Monday evening after it broke down on the Long Beach line train tracks.

The photo was snapped at the Island Park Train Station Monday evening by Long Beach resident Paul Read after a bus broke down on the Long Island Rail Road tracks, blocking an eastbound train to Long Beach.

According to Read, riders on the bus were transferred to another bus. Meanwhile, commuters on the train, for the most part, had to find their own ways home.

"Quite a few of us tried to push the bus off of the tracks but it would not move," Read said. "Another bus loaded with passengers tried to push the bus but again it would not move. The delays ended up being somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour before service was restored."

"My wife and I ended up walking home over the bridge and managed to get a few pictures while crossing," he added.

Due to the costs of fuel, the county is trying different alternatives!!!

This is what happens when Ed Mangano decides he doesn't want to pay enough for bus service. The breakdowns are no joke, most of the older buses (like the one in this photo) are dropping like flies in this heat. I wonder what NYSDOT, who inspects the buses, has to say about this? Fortunately the RR was alerted in time to avoid a train collision, but if a train was pulling in and the bus was hit, the situation could've resulted in alot of casualties, not just on the bus but on the train and in the area, if the CNG tanks blew. Having buses that stall out constantly is a dangerous situation that needs to be rectified immediately. This cannot be allowed to happen again.

That's what's known as a not so NICE bus!
