Civic To Survey Residents About Possible Chick-fil-A in Port Jefferson Station

The PJSTCA will be discussing the controversial development of a Chick-fil-A at tonights meeting.

The Town of Brookhaven is considering a proposal to build the first Chick-fil-A in Suffolk County in Port Jefferson Station, and the town has set a public hearing for Dec. 3 to gauge residents reaction to the idea.

The plan right now would be to develop the new restaurant at the former car dealership on Route 347 near Terryville Road.

According to Newsday, outgoing Democratic Councilman, Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld, said no one has contacted him and he isn't sure people really would want it. "I know the people in that community have fought to prevent it from being blighted or overdeveloped," the councilman said. "And some of the people were concerned that there would be yet another fast-food restaurant there."

Last year, the fast food restaurant came under attack after making comments about only supporting traditional marriage. Shortly after the anti-gay remarks were made, the company released a statement saying, “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

Although the controversy has settled down over the past year, the debate still remains on whether or not the fast food restaurant should be developed in Port Jefferson Station. On the PJSTCA agenda a representative from Chick-fil-A will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback at their meeting Wednesday night.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Comsewogue Public Library.
