Port Jeff Mayor: Basketball Courts Will Stay

Public meeting on Rocketship Park renovations being held Monday night at Village Hall.

Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant, said a renovation at Rocketship Park will not mean the elimination of basketball courts in the village.

The popular recreation area has two basketball courts, which are widely used, along with tennis courts.

"We are still in the planning stages," she said. "Nothing has been finalized but we are not eliminating them."

Garant said it is possible that they may be relocated.

Plans for the playground renovation are slated to begin next year. Renovations include rides that are inclusive to children who have disabilities, a water fountain and a shaded sitting area.

Village officials are meeting Monday evening to discuss the project and public input is welcomed.

"We will be talking about this on Monday evening. Anyone interested should come down and join the discussion," said Garant.
