Port Jeff Portal App Launches

App aims to bring Port Jefferson history to life.

A new way to explore the history of Port Jefferson Village launched Tuesday with the Port Jeff Portal app.

The app, once installed, allows visitors to tap on images and navigate to an info box to either read or listen to insight on what it was like back in time. To start, there will be seven points of interest centered in Mayor Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park to bring the historical content to life.

Over time, digital "walking tours" will be added and updated giving fresh new looks at different historical and chronological points.

The new online home of the Port Jefferson Digital Archive provides public access to a variety of photographs, postcards, documents, manuscripts, prints, textual items, maps, drawings and more.

Visitors can go to the Port Jeff website (www.portjeff.com) where there are over 3,400 digitized images; many of which are available for purchase. Purchases made on the site directly benefit the Port Jefferson Conservancy.
