Question: How Do You Feel About The Shark Tournaments?

Some protest, others work with the tournament to make it more humane.

The took place this weekend and the is slated for later this week. The tournaments are getting more humane (this year, different hooks were used to catch sharks). We're curious, how does the East Hampton community members feel about these shark tournaments? Sound-off in the comments below.

In response to your false statement and a general misbelief that is held by many missinformed people-all fish that are landed at the Star Island tournament are eaten!! Any shark meat that the anglers did not want to keep was packaged and delivered to the food pantry at the Long Island Council of Churches in Riverhead yesterday morning by Star island Yacht Club personnel! There are many people who count on this annual donation. In addition to strict minimum weight requirements that are imposed by the tournament directors to keep the number of sharks brought back to the dock to a minimum; hundreds of sharks are tagged and returned to the ocean.

You can contact the people at the Long Island Council of Churches in Riverhead if that helps you. Unfortunately there are still many people who aren't blessed with 3 meals per day!!
