Setauket Shoppers Can Get One-of-A-Kind Items While Supporting AMURTEL

AMURTEL is an organization that works hard to improve the quality for life of women and children experience extreme bouts of poverty.

For the past couple of weeks, holiday shopping has been quite different for many Suffolk County community members who shopped the International Boutique Sale at Yoga for Life, in Setauket.

Instead of just purchasing items you could find in an every day drug store or big box store, the International Boutique offered items for sale that were unique and handmade one-of-a-kind items made in Haiti, Peru, Nepal, India and other countries.

There was something for everyone including: yogi hoodies and tops, dresses, luxurious shawls and scarves, copper teapots, candles, jewelry, and children’s wear.

Not only were customers treated to one of a kind items, but they found out that a majority of the sales were going to an international volunteer organization called AMURTEL. According to the organizations website, they work to help improve the quality of life for women and children experiencing chronic poverty or acute stress from environmental or financial distress globally.

“The greatest gift one can give to the world is to support people who are in need.  We hosted the Holiday Sale because the proceeds will go to fund programs that improve the quality of life of women and children living in another part of the world living in extreme poverty," said Yoga for Life’s Director Sita Chillemi.

“At the heart of yoga (anahata), is love and giving selfless acts of kindness to others.  Today, many women and their children living in Haiti, Kenya, Romania or Thailand are in need of the very basic necessities of life – food, medical care, shelter and education. It is AMURTEL volunteers that assist them by creating and funding programs that help them be economically self-reliant in order to improve their own progress and gain greater economic sustainability and social and spiritual fulfillment."
