A poor song choice may have been the factor in Simone Torres elimination on Thursday night.
The 19-year old Port Jefferson Station resident who wowed the judges on a powerful and well-received rendition on Mustang Sally on her audition failed to impress with her version of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come.”
“It was so bad, so karaoke, so sort of weddingy,” said X factor judge Simon Cowell who had praised the singer’s last performance. “I wish I could have sat down with a week ago.. I would have said you are not doing it.”
Judge Kelly Rowland told Torres, “You still sang the hell out of the song.”
Torres, a student at Berklee College of Music, was shortly placed in one of the fourspots by her mentor Demi Lovato but was eventually swapped out when Danielle Geimer, 15, of Northridge, Calif. took her spot.
