State Closes Rose Avenue in Reconstruction Project

The intersection at Rose Street and Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station has been closed until further notice, the state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

That street, Rose Avenue, is just south of the intersection of Route 347 and Route 112, where a major traffic improvement project is underway. The DOT said the round-the-clock closure is expected to last until the fall of 2013.

"This closure is needed to perform major reconstruction of the NY Route 347 and NY Route 112 intersection including a jug handle to reduce travel delays, fuel use and vehicle emissions," the DOT said in a statement.

On Tuesday afternoon, cars could be seen cutting through the Three Roads Plaza, which also connects Route 112 and Canal Road. One exit from that shopping center onto Canal Road has also been closed.

A separate project to improve Canal Road is also planned, with the addition of left-turn lanes at specific intersections, a bike lane in each direction and drainage modifications, Patch recently reported.
