Suffolk County Bus Service Expansion Available for Stony Brook Students
The new expansion will include stops at Port Jefferson, the Smith Haven Mall, the Long Island Rail Road, and various stops in-between.
To participate in a new transportation option, Stony Brook University students will only need to show their student ID to gain access to a new set of routes through the Suffolk County Transit.
The new expansion came after the university made a partnership with Suffolk County offering services from the Stony Brook campus to Smith Haven Mall, Port Jefferson Village and points in between starting at 7:20 a.m. with the last campus pick up on Sundays is at 6:30 p.m.
“After successfully providing this public transportation option over the past 18-months, it seemed appropriate to work with Suffolk County to expand these services for our students on Sundays,” said James O’Connor, Director of Sustainability & Transportation Operations in a statement.

“We must do everything we can to improve our transit infrastructure and provide options for our residents to travel throughout Suffolk County,” said County Executive Steve Bellone in a statement. “The partnership between Suffolk County and Stony Brook University is beneficial to the students, the environment and the local business destinations in our area. It’s a win-win for the whole community.”
Students have already begun to take advantage of the new routes.
