Tax Receiver's Office in Port Jefferson Once Home to Brookhaven Town Police

"That's my Dad, 3rd from the left," she wrote in the comments. "The photo was taken in what is the extension on the Bank Building and was the Brookhaven Tax Office at the time. I think it was taken in 1959. Shortly after this photo was taken the Brookhaven Town Police became Suffolk County Police."

In the description of the photo on the Port Jefferson historical archive, Ken Brady, who is the official village historian, wrote that the image depicted members of the Brookhaven Town Police Department standing in front of Second Precinct headquarters on Port Jefferson’s East Main Street.

"Police operated out of the building from 1950 until January 1, 1960, when the Suffolk County Police absorbed the Brookhaven Town Police," he wrote. "The former police headquarters in Port Jefferson, later used by the Brookhaven Town Tax Receiver, stands vacant today."

But that building will not be vacant for long.
