The Week Ahead: Village Board Meeting, Pet Rescue Fundraiser

A look at some upcoming notable events in the greater Port Jefferson area.

In case you're looking to get more involved in the community, here's your chance: a handful of local opportunities to interact with school and government officials. Also on the horizon: a joint Save-a-Pet and Guardians of Rescue fundraiser along with a women's health event.

1. On Monday at 7 p.m., the Port Jefferson Village board will hold a public board meeting at 7 p.m. at village hall.

2. The Comsewogue Board of Education will hold a regular school board meeting Monday at 8 p.m. at the district office board room.

3. Suffolk Legis. Kara Hahn, D-Setauket, will hold an open community meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Comsewogue High School. The community is invited to share thoughts and concerns directly with the legislator.

4. On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., join Mather Hospital health professionals for a talk on "What Every Woman Should Know About Women's Cancers" at Brookhaven Town Hall.

5. On Thursday starting at 7 p.m., Grumpy Jack's in Port Jefferson will host a "Pints for Pits" joint Save-a-Pet/Guardians of Rescue fundraiser to help care for the abused or neglected pit bulls housed at the shelter.
