Veteran Spotlight: Mt. Sinai Resident Drove Tank During WWII

Vet, who is 91 years old, is also volunteer at Mt. Sinai Fire Department.

Louis Rowehl, 91, was at Heritage Park in Mt. Sinai on Friday to be honored for his service as a tank driver during WWII. He was even at Normandy during the invasion as a part of the 802nd Tank Destroyer Battalion.

Rowehl’s service didn’t end after the boys came home from over there either. He’s also still a captain in the Mt. Sinai Fire Department.

“I’m very proud of him,” said Noreen Rowehl, who accompanied her father to the ceremony. “I couldn’t ask for a better dad.”
