Video: Exploring the Bottom of Port Jefferson Harbor

Divers video a survey of Port Jefferson Harbor near old dock pylons.

Squalus Marine Divers, an online video program that explores the Long Island Sound, took a trip to Port Jefferson Harbor in July to see what it could find. The result is this narrated video giving a glimpse under the water of our very own harbor. As Captain Dennis, the narrator of the video, says in the opening, "We know more about space and the universe than we do about our own oceans."

Around the pilings the divers found evidence of human life including bottles (including a Rheingold "chug-a-mug" from what the diver estimated is from the 1960s), tires, lobster traps and bricks. The bottle counter in the video is fun as the diver encounters more and more.
