VIDEO: Local Girl Hopes Video Helps Her to Meet Her Favorite Band
Port Jefferson resident Melena Butera wants to meet One Direction for her Sweet Sixteen.
Port Jefferson resident Melena Butera's story has been featured on News 12 Long Island and in The Port Times Record. Her plea has even been tweeted by entertainment blogger Perez Hilton.
Butera, who has Down Syndrome, is hoping for her YouTube video to go viral and attract the attention of one of the biggest boy band sensations on the charts today, the British import One Direction.
Ever since her sister introduced the teenager to the band they've been a facination for her. For Butera's 16th birthday in November, she wants to meet the boys from One Direction and her friends and family are trying to make it possible.

They have a Facebook page, a Twitter account and have been flooding social media with their message. The video already has over 28,000 views.

"So we know this is a long shot," says her sister Juliana in the video but they are putting all their effort into the campaign.
"You never know unless you try," she wrote on the YouTube page.
