WATCH: Nurses Picket Outside of St. Charles Hospital

Nurses protesting layoffs saying conditions unsafe for patients.

Over 100 nurses from staged to make the public aware of issues they are having with the hospital over staffing.

The New York State Nursing Association claims that recent layoffs have made the ratio of nurses to patients unsafe, while the hospital says it is within limits agreed upon at last contract negotiations. The hospital also says that the nurse vacancy rate is 3.7 percent, well below the New York state average of 6.1 percent, as reported by the Hospital Association of New York State.

The nurses association and the hospital are currently in contract negotiations.
