Best Bargain Books Closes Up Shop

After announcing last month that it was planning on closing its doors in late August, Best Bargain Books has officially packed up, leaving Port Jefferson after 10 years earlier this week.

Mosquito Tests Positive For West Nile Virus in Port Jefferson Station

Suffolk County Department of Health Services has 29 mosquito samples that tested positive for West Nile Virus in Suffolk, including one the Port Jefferson area. 

A mosquito sample collected between Aug. 6 and Aug.7  taken from Port Jefferson Station tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Pilot Program Puts iPads in Port Jefferson Classrooms

Port Jefferson's Board of Education has given the green light to a pilot program that will outfit Edna Louise Spear Elementary School with a set of iPads for student use.

Educators announced Tuesday that the district will now spend close to $11,000 on a set of 30 iPads with protective cases. They will be available to students when teachers are assigned time with them, for use during lessons, projects and other learning activities, according to Christine Austen, assistant principal and chair of the district's technology committee.

Vandals Hit Church Sign in Port Jefferson Station

The sign in front of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Jefferson Station was vandalized sometime between 10 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. last night, a church leader said Tuesday. 

The graffiti reads "God Iz You" in orange letters on one side of the sign, while it reads "The Free Spirits" on the other side in black paint. 

Cops Seek Info on Port Jefferson Station Cell Phone Thief

A woman was caught on camera on July 27 stealing an iPhone that had been left on the counter at a Port Jefferson Station store, and Crime Stoppers is seeking information on the woman who committed the crime.

Port Jefferson Historical Archive Hits 3,500 Online Images

In an email to Patch, Port Jefferson village historian said that the online archive of historical images has hit a new milestone.
