Parking in Port Jeff-There’s an App for That

If you’ve ever had a hair appointment that ran too long or dinner in town where you just wanted to linger a little longer, you may appreciate a new mobile app that will allow you to pay for your parking right from your phone or mobile device. 

The app, available through MobileNow!, works with mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets and has been available for parking in Port Jefferson for the past two weeks. Village officials are diligently trying to spread the word.

Evans Ganthier Found Guilty in Murder of Rebecca Koster

A Port Jefferson Station man was found guilty on Thursday of killing a Medford woman he had met in a bar.

Evans Ganthier, 33, was found guilty of second-degree murder of Rebecca Koster, 24, which carries a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

After a Dry Spell, Port Jeff Village Gets a Liquor Store
There's a wine store, a cheese store and an olive oil shop, but one business that the village of Port Jeff doesn't have is a liquor store, and that's about to change.

Port Jeff Liquors will open next month in the t-shirt shop above Fitness Together on East Main Street. Steve Plunkett, who owns the t-shirt shop, is in the process of winding down that business as he prepares to open the new liquor store in its place.

2 Mount Sinai Schools Earn NYS Reward Status
Two Mount Sinai schools were named as New York State Reward Schools by  New York State Commissioner John B. King, Jr. for the 2013-14 school year.

Mount Sinai Middle School and high school have received the designation as a Reward School. Mount Sinai Middle School was also named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School in the performance category of “Exemplary High Performing", last year. 

‘Students, Not Scores’ Support Grows Via Petition
The ideas at the heart of the Comsewogue school district’s‘Students, Not Scores’ rallycontinue to resonate with people on Long Island, in New York State and nationally, as petitions in both online and paper formats have collected more than 1,500 signatures since the start of the Aug. 17 rally.
