A wrap up of this week's news in Port Jefferson.

2 Port Jefferson Schools Earn 'Reward School' Designation
Port Jefferson's high school and middle school have made New York State's list of high-achieving "reward schools" for the second year in a row.

It's the second time the middle school and high school have earned this status; the 2012-13 school year marked the first year that schools were categorized in this way by the state. Last year, all three schools were on the list, which superintendent Dr. Ken Bossert said is based on several criteria that measure achievement and growth.

New Owner on Tap at Brewtopia
Paul Diedrichs isn't new to the brew, but he is the new owner of Port Jefferson's Brewtopia.

Diedrichs, 23, recently took the reins after buying the shop, which sells craft beers, home brewing equipment and ingredients, such as specialty malts and hops,, from Mark Romano.

Mt. Sinai's Spota Cleared to Run for Fourth Term as DA
County District Attorney Thomas Spota, of Mt. Sinai, has been cleared to run for a fourth term following a New York Court of Appeals ruling on Thursday.

Suffolk voters had OK'd a measure in 1993 setting term limits on the position, however a 6-1 vote upheld the same ruling made by two lower courts, stating that the DA is a state constitutional officer, not subject to county laws.

Local Teens' Original Music Video Gets National Attention
For Jake Tuohy, shooting and editing video is more than just a fun side project – it's his passion. The same holds true for his friends Vin Jacovelli, who loves composing rap lyrics, and Roy Lenzo, whose talents lie in the music and the beat.

The three are 2013 Comsewogue graduates who call themselves the F.I.R.E. Squad, and who have created a song and music video that has garnered national attention as the No. 5 video in theGotChosen.com video contest out of more than 400 videos.
