Village Lauds Former Mayor in Park Dedication Ceremony
Gathered on what was once brownfields and abandoned buildings, village officials formerly renamed Harborfront Park to Mayor Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park on Wednesday in honor of the former mayor who helped lead the charge to revitalize the blighted waterfront to what is now the hub of downtown Port Jefferson.
Village Launching New Look for Rocketship Park
A new look for the 70's era playground known as Rocketship Park is about to take flight with work expected to begin next year.
Port Jefferson board members will discuss the plan at Monday evening’s village board meeting and public input will be allowed according to an article in Newsday. The plan calls for rides that will are inclusive to children who have disabilities, a water fountain and a shaded sitting area.Port Jeff Mayor: Basketball Courts Will Stay
Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant, said a renovation at Rocketship Park will not mean the elimination of basketball courts in the village.
The popular recreation area has two basketball courts, which are widely used, along with tennis courts.
"We are still in the planning stages," she said. "Nothing has been finalized but we are not eliminating them."
Comsewogue Superintendent Addresses Kindergarten Class Size Concerns
n a message posted Tuesday on the Comsewogue school district website, superintendent Joseph Rella assured families that kindergarten class sizes at Norwood Elementary are within acceptable ranges and that all students would receive all the support they need this year.
