Chase Bank Robbed in Heart of Port Jefferson Village
The Chase bank branch in the middle of Port Jefferson village was robbed Thursday afternoon by a man who threatened to harm someone inside unless the teller handed over cash, Suffolk County Police said.

Simone Torres Makes the Cut for X-Factor
When you have a musical audition that results in Simon Cowell winking at you, the results are usually promising. 

That was the case with 19-year-old Port Jefferson resident Simone Torres, whose performance of "Mustang Sally" by Wilson Pickett aired on X-Factor Thursday night. 

2 Local School Districts to Share $100K in State Aid

Dog Thrown from Van Safe at Shelter
Local animal rescue groups are looking for help in finding the owners of a dog that was thrown from a van on Monday.

Willow, a purebred Weimaraner, was picked up by a woman who said the dog was thrown from a blue van in front of the Port Jefferson Station 7-Eleven on Monday.

Village to Allow Selling on Sidewalks
Merchants in Port Jefferson will be able to peddle their wares-with limitations- on outdoor sidewalks.

The village board, in an attempt to bring outdoor selling standards in line, voted to allow sales on sidewalks, which had previously been prohibited. Stores with goods for sale on the sidewalks had, in large part, historically not  been fined for it.

The new code came about in essence to allow pedestrians to comfortably walk on the narrow sidewalks, which, according to the board, presents liability issues.

Bonner Takes Republican Primary Over Lenz
Brookhaven councilwoman Jane Bonner will run for re-election as the Republican candidate for a town council seat this November.

Bonner, C-Rocky Point, won the Republican nomination to run for Brookhaven Town Council over Brookhaven's former assistant director of traffic planning, Brian Lenz by 1,344 votes to 373 votes, according to Suffolk County Board of Elections Tuesday night with all  1052 voting districts are reporting their results. 

Cops: Maryhaven Manager Stole $19K From Employer
Suffolk police on Tuesday arrested a Shirley woman for stealing thousands of dollars from Maryhaven Center of Hope, a Port Jefferson Station-based residential facility for people with special needs.

Police said Samantha Cuomo, 28, stole approximately $19,000 over a 14-month span leading up to March of this year, allegedly spending the money at places such as Hollywood Salon and Day Spa in Miller Place and Estelle's Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale.
