Village Floods During Tropical Storm Andrea

As Tropical Storm Andrea blew through on Friday, it dumpedcopious amounts of water on the area causing flash floodsthroughout Long Island. In Port Jefferson Village, Marcelo Litovsky, co-owner of Lainie's Way, snapped this shot of flooding on Main Street.

Village Pursuing Grant for Lanterns with Security Cameras

The Port Jefferson Village Board on Monday approved a resolution to pursue a grant for five lanterns with security cameras that would be installed at 'hot spots' throughout the village.

After approving the resolution, the process now begins to apply and wait to see if they are approved for a grant through the Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Program. 

Mt. Sinai Girls Lax Cap Perfect Season With State Title

The Mount Sinai varsity lacrosse girls are state champions.

The varsity lax squad hoisted the trophy Saturday at SUNY Cortland after a 15-6 victory over Skaneateles.

Caroline Fitzgerald was named the tournament MVP after her game-tying goal helped key a 10-0 run int he victory. Fitzgerald also had two goals and an assist in Friday's semifinal win over Honeoye Falls-Lima. The win caps off a 20-0 season for the Mustangs.

Comsewogue Pair Surprised With $50K Scholarships

Two Comsewogue High School seniors' hard work has paid off - big time. 

On Friday - their last full day of school at Comsewogue - Shilpa Iyer and Shweta Iyer received a surprise announcement that they each won a $50,000 scholarship from Proton OnSite, a green technology solutions company. 

Woodhaven Owner Proposes New Sewage Plant

A Port Jefferson Station business owner is proposing to turn a sticky situation into an opportunity for economic growth along Route 112. 

Ken Gaul, owner of Woodhaven Center of Care, has proposed plans to construct a sewage treatment plant that could handle 250,000 gallons of waste a day - enough for his nursing home, his assisted living facility and new businesses, reports The Port Times Record.
