Weekend Guide: Walk For Hope, Farmer's Market, Reading Events

Patch picks for weekend activities.

The season of festivals and outdoor events arrives this weekend in Port Jefferson. Also coming up: library, art and food events. Don't forget to check out our events calendar for more ideas.

Community Benefit

  • Mather Hospital's Families Walk For Hope, five-mile scenic walk through Port Jefferson and Belle Terre, is set for Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. (registration at 8 a.m.; entrance fee of $20).
Family
  • The 2nd Annual Boaters' Maritime Festival will be held in the harborfront area in Port Jefferson starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Maritime Explorium will host the activity "How to Say 'Communicate With Me' in Nine Languages" on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • Head to the Port Jefferson Free Library on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for "Art with Joanne" for ages 7 through 12 or the "Teens vs. Librarians" board game challenge.
  • Also at the library, on Saturday kids ages 4 through 7 can sign up for a 2 p.m. reading event called "Then What Happens," in which cumulative stories will be explored.
  • The library will also be hosting a "May the Fourth be with You" Star Wars celebration on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for both kids and teens.
Food
  • Vine 2 Wine will be hosting a complimentary wine tasting and food pairing on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more details.
  • The Farmer's Market in Port Jefferson opens for the season on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fine Arts
  • Imagine Gallery will present the works of Viktor Shvaiko on Saturday, with the artist himself appearing at the gallery between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
