The red phone booth on Arden Place and Thompson Street are popular spots for photo ops.

If you sit with a view of the intersection of Arden Place and Main Street in Port Jefferson you'll see a unique phenomenon.

People congregate at a curious red-painted metal box on the corner near the . If you have time to waste, a great view of this spontaneous happening can be found at the big window along Arden Place at the .

People stop, they stare, most times, they smile and then they get inside to have their pictures taken. The metal box is an secured for the village back by current village Trustee, Adrienne Kessel, former Trustee and former Mayor Jeanne Garant and Robert Strong who was mayor at the time.

Now people who come from out of town like Kristopher VanLeeuwen find it a curiosity. VanLeeuwen is a firefighter from San Diego. He came to the village for a visit with his girlfriend, Alicia, a holistic health coach and native Long Islander who got her undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University.

VanLeeuwen was surprised to come upon the red phone booth on Arden Place.

"I saw the phone booth and was excited because, well, you just don't see phone booths any more, especially not cool old ones like that," he said in an email.

The couple took photos of themelves in the phone booth and VanLeeuwen posted them on Instagram and Twitter.
