With Temps Soaring, Locals Flock To Cedar Beach

As record temperatures approach this week, many in the area are weighing their options to stay cool, and plenty have flocked to Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai.

The beach was lined with umbrellas Tuesday afternoon as locals found some shade, hit the water or just grabbed a drink to cool down.

John, from Miller Place, chose the latter and sat by the bar.

"I went for a ride and thought I'd stop by for a cold beer," he said.

Cynthia, a bartender at the Cedar Beach Bar, said she's seen a steady crowd and expects it to stay that way all week.

"It's been packed even through the night," she said. "People come for the sunsets and the live music here too. "

Others grabbed their favorite chair and lounged in the sand while catching up on some reading.

Kristine Blume, of Rocky Point, was there for her son's swimming lessons, but even though it took her out of the air conditioning, she wasn't complaining.

"It's really bad, I've been trying to stay in but I like te beach too," she said. "I'd rather be here than home, honestly."

With temperatures in the mid-to-high 90's all week, Cedar Beach should continue to see big crowds as a popular spot to chill out.
