The Harbor Ballet Theatre Presents ‘The Nutcracker’

Magic is in the air as the Harbor Ballet Theatre performs a rousing rendition of the holiday classic, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.  The company, comprised of over a 100 local dancers, is celebrating its 20th year performing the ballet and will feature Tony Award Nominee and American Ballet Theater soloist Ashley Tuttle in the lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Since its first performance in 1892, “Nutcracker” has become an American Tradition, captivating audiences both young and old with its lush sets, rich costumes and masterful score.  Their delight is evident as they journey with Clara through a rich imaginary landscape made up of the sweets and delights the holidays promise us.

What makes this company so unique is its dedication to the local community.  Dancers are afforded instruction and the opportunity to perform on sets more often found on Broadway than on a local stage. They learn the tricks of the show’s magical moments, and the art of acting and dancing with passion, resulting in a performance that electrifies the stage and mesmerizes the audience.

“I encourage the dancers to take ownership of their roles, adding their own personal touch to their performances.” said Amy Tyler, co-owner of the company, whose insightful direction in dance has brought former students to coveted roles with the American Ballet theater and New York City Ballet.
