Annual Sculpture Exhibit of Long Island Artists Benefits Mather Hospital

Some of the proceeds from the sale of local artists' work goes to benefit the hospital.

On Friday, held a reception for its 32nd Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show kicking off an exhibit of local artists’ work on view through Aug 1.

This year, the show features 20 Long Island artists exhibiting 29 pieces of artwork in a variety of media including clay, colored glass, iron, bronze, wood, steel and copper.

The sculptures are displayed on the hospital’s lawn and courtyard and is an annual summer tradition that “allows artists to display their work to the community and helps provide cheer for patients and visitors,” according to a statement released by Mather.

The Sculpture Show – held in cooperation with the Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council – is free and open to the public and all of the art is for sale. The hospital receives 20 percent of the net proceeds from the sale of any sculpture in the exhibit.

According to hospital spokesman Stuart Vincent, the sculptures are valued between $500 and $2,500 with the average price being about $1,000.

I a statement the hospital says that Mather’s annual summer tradition allows local artists to display their work to the community and helps provide cheer for patients and visitors. The show also allows Mather Hospital to support local artists and to show appreciation to people who donate to the hospital.
