Play’s Creators Attend Sunday Performance of Treasure Island

Called an historical moment in Theatre Three's history by Executive Artistic Director Jeffrey Sanzel.

The cast of Treasure Island put on a rousing performance on Sunday at Theatre Three to the delight of not only the audience, but to three special attendees. The creators of the show: Sherman Yellen, who wrote the book for the play (and blogged about the Theatre Three performance on Huffington Post), Gary William Friedman, who composed the music and Will Holt, who wrote the lyrics were all in attendance. Although the play was written 30 years ago, it has never been performed at full throttle.

"This was a moment of theatre history for our company," said Executive Artistic Director Jeffrey Sanzel, who also directed the play. "To have these three legendary Broadway figures attend not just a performance of their work–but a world premiere. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Dr. Andrew Markowitz, president of the Theatre Three Board of Directors along with board members Sal Sinito and Beth Schwartz were all there to greet and thank the creators.
