Simone Torres Makes the Cut for X-Factor

The Port Jefferson Station resident sang "Mustang Sally" and Simon Cowell called it the best audition of the day.

When you have a musical audition that results in Simon Cowell winking at you, the results are usually promising.

That was the case with 19-year-old Port Jefferson resident Simone Torres, whose performance of "Mustang Sally" by Wilson Pickett aired on X-Factor Thursday night.

"Are you going to be amazing?" Simon Cowell asked.

"I hope you think so," Torres said. "I'm going to try."

They thought so.

With her mom, dad, brother and sister watching backstage, Torres brought the crowd to her feet with her performance, and when it ended, she filled up with tears as she took in the moment.

"Wow, you’re so fresh," Paulina Rubio said. "When I watched you walk in, I said "Hmm…sweet girl." But then you started singing. I didn’t expect you to sing that well."

"I loved watching that light in your eye sparkle from the second that you walked out," Demi Lovato added. "I think everyone here can agree…we all just want to hug you."

Rowland added that it was one of the best auditions they'd seen all day.

"I disagree," Simon Cowell said. "It’s not a question of I think this is the best audition. This was the best audition."

“I think you really really are special,” he added.

After getting four yeses from the judges, Torres' father was overcome pride.

"I did something right in my life to be able to call myself her dad," he said.
