Stony Brook Film Festival Guide: See What's Showing Thursday

The lineup for July 25 at the Staller Center:

7:00 p.m.

Blackfish – New York premiere (90 minutes)
A documentary about Tilikum, an orca whale that performed at Sea World, and his trainers. The film has been described as "a riveting exposé about the pressures brought to bear by the multibillion dollar sea-park industry." Watch the trailer here.

9:15 p.m.

Muscle Shoals – New York premiere (111 minutes)
Some iconic songs, including "I'll Take You There," "Wild Horses," "When a Man Loves a Woman," "Freebird" and more, have their roots in Muscle Shoals, a small Alabama town on the Tennessee River. Rick Hall, the founder of FAME Studios, overcame poverty and tragedy – set against a "cauldron of racial hostility" – to help create music.
