The Great Gatsby Piques Interest at PJ Cinemas

At the request of his customers to offer a comparison between the book and the current movie version of The Great Gatsby, PJ of Port Jefferson Station's PJ Cinemas wrote on the famous board in the theater lobby that he was "embarrassed to admit he never read the book."

He got right to it and said that he was "amazed at F. Scott Fitzgerald's power and prose" and that it was no wonder with all the versions of the movie out there they have "all been unable to capture Fitzgerald who painted with words."

On a rainy Sunday, theater goers lined up and PJ warned each one to get their seats earlier because it was going to be a busy day.

PJ said that this weekend is unusual in that he has three movies all on two screens each. The Star Trek sequel, Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby are occupying all but one theater. The last being 42, a film about Jackie Robinson.

It seems that Hollywood is betting on big budget blockbusters this summer with most of them part of an already successful franchise or an interpretation of a well known story, like Gatsby.

Did you see a movie this weekend? Which one and what is your theater of choice?
