After a Dry Spell, Port Jeff Village Gets a Liquor Store

New store will open on East Main Street.

There's a wine store, a cheese store and an olive oil shop, but one business that the village of Port Jeff doesn't have is a liquor store, and that's about to change.

Port Jeff Liquors will open next month in the t-shirt shop above Fitness Together on East Main Street. Steve Plunkett, who owns the t-shirt shop, is in the process of winding down that business as he prepares to open the new liquor store in its place.

"We just got our license yesterday," said Plunkett. "We will have the brands people are used to at great prices." Plunkett said customers don't have to be concerned that buying liquor in the heart of the village will mean higher prices.

"We will match any competitors price," he said.

For now, the only competition would be the Pindar wine shop on Main Street and they only sell their brand name vintage. Plunkett believes the last time the village saw a liquor store was sometime in the 80's.

The store will open up late September and a grand opening is planned for mid October. According to Plunkett, the store will be open seven days a week, opening at 10 a.m. every day except Sunday, when they will open at noon. Until then, all shirts in the store are fifty-percent off.
