At Ransome Inn all Family Members are Welcome, Even the Furry ones

Ransome Inn is a very family and pet friendly bed and breakfast, located within walking distance of historic downtown Port Jefferson.

The Ransome Inn located at 409 East Broadway in Port Jefferson is a family and pet friendly bed and breakfast located within walking distance of the village.

Owned and operated by Member Barbara Ransome and her husband Dan Tarantino, the couple have run the inn for 14 years and pride themselves on hospitality and a comfortable accommodation experience.

“I think that people who come to bed and breakfasts are looking for the accommodation experience,” Ransome said. “Hotels can be more impersonal, you don’t get that one on one. They’re friendly and everything, but the level of intimacy cannot be compared.”

The couple was married and living in the house for about two years before discussing its potential and legalizing it as a bed and breakfast.

“We had no children, I was a Village Trustee at the time, and we were discussing codes of bed and breakfasts, so it brought discussion back at the house,” Ransome said.

Within walking distance of historic downtown Port Jeff, the Ransome Inn offers guests limited transportation if coming by ferry or train and connections to people and places in town.

“That’s what’s nice about a bed and breakfast–we can give them that personal service,” Ransome said.

The bed and breakfast is perfect for those traveling with their entire family including their furry friends. The Ransome Inn is a pet friendly environment and also welcomes infants and children.

“Pets have to be profiled to stay,” Ransome said. “We also are one of the only bed and breakfasts that I know of that will take babies, not just children. We’re family friendly.”

Ransome said the place is booked from Memorial Day to Labor Day, so it is best to call ahead to be sure to plan a trip around their availability.

“Eighty-five percent of everyone that comes here is for a reason–not just a vacation,” she said. “But we get vacationers too. We also have a lot of people from Long Island who come here.”

The price of their most reasonable accommodation is the standard room, which varies from $99/$109 on weekdays ($99 single occupancy) to $129 on weekends and $139 on holidays. They also have the suite with a private sitting area.
